The RCM group of mouth pads or night guards are a very popular brand. They have three mouth guard products that are noteworthy. The double arch guard, the top of the arch guard, and also the lower arch light guard.

After experimenting with these mouth guards, quite frankly I definitely would not buy either the upper or even the lower (light) arch pads for TMJ pain relief. While it's true that these dental mouth guards may help facilitate some pain relief and discomfort, they also cause more actually more clenching, which is highly undesirable.

More teeth clenching or gritting could actually make your situation worse or at the very least limit your treatment. It could forestall progress in actually healing, in other words.

You don't want that, of course.

The double arch guard will help you lower your popping and clicking inside your TMJ joints (crepitus is what the clicking or popping is called) as it holds your lower jaw inside to a forward position. So, that's helpful.

Another problem is that you'll awaken each morning with the the teeth not being able to shut together as the guard doesn't help that. It's a big downside of the product. I suggest using a night guard, of course, when you've got significant difficulties with popping, clicking or problems securing your jaw when you sleep. Thus, I cannot recommend this mouth guard.
