TMJ Treatment Options
TMJ is not a health disorder that should be underestimated. It can cause real damage to your jaw joint. This short TMJ
treatment options page will go over the options you have available to you.
TMJ's symptoms are such that they usually incite quick resolution. This short article, though, will not be about the TMJ symptoms.
For more information on TMJ-related symptoms, check out this page here.
Now, let's talk about those TMJ treatment options in more depth.
Treatment Options
TMJ Mouth Guard. A good mouthguad can go a long way in helping resolve a TMJ problem.
Mind you, I'm not talking about the mouthguard that athletes use in sporting events or practices.
Those mouthguards are different from what I'm talking about. They are specifically designed by TMJ dentists to help releve or at the very
least mitigate TMJ symptoms some of which can be extremely debilitating.
These mouth guards are not expensive either, and they're readily available. Some are better than others, though, so make sure you read a good
review on mouth guards. I recommend my own, of course, but you can read a good TMJ mouth guard review here.
These mouth guards are clinically designed at some expense to correct jaw-joint issues like TMJ, bruxism, etc. They run in range from $25 to
$100 in price.
TMJ Exercises
TMJ is essentially a jaw joint problem and by exercising the jaw muscles and the jaw in carefully designed TMJ
exercises, it can help tremendously minimize and even eliminate TMJ problems.
It may not be a panacea but it can help quite a bit. At the very least, it should be in your bad of tricks or your toolkit in helping to
remedy TMJ. I recommend TMJ exercises designed and instituted by a TMJ dentist or a neuromuscular specialist dentist.
These exercises work synergistically together and in time can really do much good.
Relaxation Exercises
Stress is a causal agent with TMJ. It is not the only one, mind you, but it can contribute to it as well as bruxism and trauma.
These relaxation exercises can help relax the jaw and help mitigate and lessen the significant pain that can result due to TMJ.
One simple tip is to put a pencil in your mouth so that it's horizontally placed in your mouth like in the graphic image.
That is just a simple tip, though. I'm talking about relaxation exercises like those with autogenics or Tai Chi or visualizaiton
exercises. Such relaxation exercises can go a long way but should not be considered the cure for it's not for
fundamentally TMJ is a jaw-joint issue.
Massaging the jaw, neck and shoulder area can help, though, to at least lessen the pain.
TMJ Treatment Option -- 150%, 6-Month Product Guarantee
Another simple home-made remedy is a good mouthguard. A mouthguard is inexpensive and can help in mitigating jaw pain and with TMJ. As a
dentist, I knew I had to be as informed as possible on the abundance of mouth guards on the market.
Consequently, I personally researched every mouth guard on this mouth guard review web page. I bought all of them and went through a vigorous selection process.
If you opt for a mouth guard to resolve your teeth grinding issue, I give a 110% Guarantee on one particular product -- the RCM Double arch -- thus certifying it will reduce
your jaw popping and clicking and jaw locking. It's a good product.
If you are considering a mouthguard for grinding teeth or for a TMJ issue, I give a 150% guarantee -- yes you read that right -- on my recommended SmartGuard night guard. (You
can see a picture of it above in this article.)(
My mouthguard was specifically designed by me to relieve the TMJ issue, but it has use for those with a teeth grinding or bruxism problem as
well. It's been carefully designed and at some expense but it is very powerful and helpful for those with TMJ.
